Jochushitsu
A jochu was a woman employed to manage household chores. As the name suggests, the jochushitsu was her resting place.
During the Japanese colonial period in Taiwan, it was common for Japanese residents to employ jochu to handle domestic affairs, and these helpers were often Taiwanese women. Furthermore, the jochu would enter and exit the house only through the katteguchi - a small side door connected to the kitchen.

2016 Before demolition
The jochushitsu, daitokoro, and bathroom were once opened up to serve as a bedroom.

2020 Restoration Project
After removing the interior finishes and walls from Dr. Gao’s era, the early spatial layout of the old house could be inferred from the floor structure. Traces of the stove were also discovered beneath the finishes.
