Daitokoro

00:00 / 00:51

Typically used as a living room, the ima is a multifunctional flexible space where the family carries out daily activities such as dining and sleeping. It connects to the chanoma and can be combined with it when needed to create a spacious bedroom area.

The ima was once opened up to the chanoma to serve as a bedroom, with walls added to create a bathroom area. During restoration, it was returned to its original layout.

After removing the interior finishes and walls from Dr. Gao’s era, the early spatial layout of the old house could be inferred from the floor structure. Traces of the stove were also discovered beneath the finishes.
